Product Description:
Stapelia leendertziae, commonly known as Black Bells or Carrion Flower, is a fascinating succulent native to South Africa. It forms clump- or carpet-forming stems that are green with grey streaks and have small tubercles on the angles. The stems are quadrangular and can grow up to 8 inches (20 cm) long and 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick. Produces large, purple-brown to dark purple, bell-shaped flowers that can reach up to 3.2 inches (8 cm) in length. The flowers have a unique appearance and emit a smell reminiscent of decaying flesh to attract pollinators. Native to the mountains of the northeastern escarpment of South Africa, extending into Swaziland. It grows in subtropical or tropical dry shrubland and rocky areas.

Growing Instructions:
Prefers full sun to partial shade. It thrives in strong light but should be protected from the harshest midday sun. Requires typical succulent watering—allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Adding perlite or sand can enhance drainage. Thrives in warm temperatures, ideally between 60°F to 80°F (15°C to 27°C). It does not handle frost well and should be kept indoors in colder climates. Moderate humidity levels are preferred. Mist occasionally if the air is too dry.

Ships in 3.5" pots. You will receive a plant similar to the ones pictured, though size and fullness may vary. Please understand that shipped plants have bumpy rides. A few broken leaves or small stems are normal during shipping and are not considered damage. Broken stems can be rooted once the cut end dries to start new growth. Plants may arrive semi‑dormant, and in winter they may naturally drop a few leaves. If your plant arrives rotting or dead, we will replace it. Please contact us with photo proof within 24 hours of delivery. After 24 hours, plant care becomes the buyer’s responsibility, though we’re always happy to answer questions and help you succeed. We also add brief instructions on getting started when you open your box. We want our plant babies to have happy new homes! 🥰

Keep in mind some plants we carry are very tropical and even cold, not freezing, temperatures can kill them. 📌IF YOU EXPECT COLD WEATHER, PLEASE PURCHASE A HEAT PACK! 📌 These are necessary for winter shipping, so I sell them at cost. I won't refund or replace any frozen plants unless you buy one!
