Name: Royal Hawaiian Purple Hoya, Purple Pubicalyx
Scientific Name: Hoya pubicalyx ‘Royal Hawaiian Purple’
Family Name: Apocynaceae
Product Description:
Hoya pubicalyx ‘Royal Hawaiian Purple’ is a vigorous, vining epiphytic species known for its long, lance‑shaped leaves splashed with silver variegation. The foliage is deep green, often with subtle flecking that intensifies in bright light. Mature plants produce large, spherical clusters of star‑shaped flowers in deep purple to nearly black tones, with a glossy surface and a sweet fragrance. The blooms are among the darkest in the genus, making this cultivar especially prized by collectors. Fast‑growing and forgiving, it’s one of the easiest Hoyas to train on trellises or hanging planters.
Origination: Cultivar selection; species native to the Philippines
Historic Uses: Ornamental houseplant, collector’s specimen
Height: Vining stems 4–8+ feet with support
Hardiness: USDA Zones 10–12 (grown indoors elsewhere)
Flower Color: Deep purple to nearly black; glossy, star‑shaped blooms
Other Names: Royal Hawaiian Purple Hoya, Purple Pubicalyx
Growing Conditions:
Grow in bright, indirect light to enhance leaf splashing and encourage flowering. Prefers airy, well‑draining soil and moderate watering—allow the top layer to dry between waterings. Appreciates humidity and warm temperatures. Provide a trellis or hanging support for climbing. Excellent for indoor collections, hanging baskets, and display shelves where its dark, dramatic blooms can be showcased.

Please contact us with photo proof within 24 hours of delivery. After 24 hours, plant care becomes the buyer’s responsibility, though we’re always happy to answer questions and help you succeed. Heat packs are available to purchase in our shop for cold-sensitive plants. Keep in mind some plants we carry are very tropical and even cold, not freezing, temperatures can kill them. 📌IF YOU EXPECT COLD WEATHER, PLEASE PURCHASE A HEAT PACK! 📌 These are necessary for winter shipping, so I sell them at cost. I won't refund or replace any frozen plants unless you buy one!
