Scientific Name: Hoya sp. AH053
Family: Apocynaceae
Product Description:
Hoya AH053 is a striking tropical vine known for its dark green, lanceolate leaves flecked with patterned white speckles, giving it a textured, almost frosted appearance. The foliage may develop reddish sun stress tones under bright light, adding seasonal variation. When mature, it produces clusters of creamy white to pink star-shaped flowers with a subtle fragrance, typical of the genus. Its compact growth habit and ornamental foliage make it a standout in indoor collections and terrariums.
Origination: Southeast Asia (exact locality unconfirmed)
Historic Uses: Ornamental vine for tropical plant collections, terrariums, and hanging baskets
Height: Vining stems can reach up to 10 feet with support
Hardiness: USDA Zones 11a–11b
Flower Color: Creamy white to pale pink with a soft corona
Maturity: Blooms seasonally under high humidity and bright light
Other Names: Sometimes referred to as Waxflower, Waxplant, or Waxvine
Growing Instructions:
Hoya AH053 thrives in bright, indirect light, though it can tolerate some direct morning sun. Use a well-draining soil mix—such as orchid bark, extra coarse perlite, and coco coir—to prevent root rot. Water thoroughly, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Maintain temperatures between 65–85°F and humidity above 60% for optimal growth. This variety responds well to sun stress, developing reddish hues without harm. Fertilize lightly during the growing season with a balanced or high-potassium formula. Best grown in hanging pots or trained on trellises to showcase its trailing vines and foliage.
