The plant is leafless and has small, bell-shaped purple flowers with triangular lobes that appear from spring to midsummer. This species is endemic to river gorges in the Transkei, Eastern Cape, South Africa. It grows in pockets of soil and leaf-litter on ledges of cliffs or rock outcrops, usually on north- or east-facing aspects. The rocky habitats where Huernia pendula grows harbor a rich succulent flora, including species like Cotyledon woodii, Gasteria excelsa, and Haworthia glabrata.
